Maple Sushi is at 2563 Major Mackenzie Dr. W. in Maple, part of Vaughan which borders Toronto's northwest, in a small outdoor mall. It's a 10-15 min. walk west of the Maple GO train station, so is sort of transit-accessible. Maple has a clean modern interior, plenty of booths, free WiFi and iPad menus. Unfortunately, disposable chopsticks are used but we bring our own as always. Soy at table was fresh, sweet and excellent. Pop is $1.50, canned not AYCD.
Miso soup was excellent with plenty of savour, a sort of floral aroma as per Mishy and not watery at all. Green salad had a very good house dressing with an earthy flavor, and was delicious. Mishy said that the seaweed salad was excellent.
Philadelphia roll was made with big chunks of salmon, avocado and cream cheese without any filler such as julienne cu
cumber, and was very good. Mishy adored the green dragon roll, which blended flavours very well and was among if not the best I've had of these. Torched salmon nigiri was excellent and we both loved it. Salmon nigiri was fresh and very good especially with the soy, with good rice consistency. Red snapper nigiri was similarly good and fresh. Fried bean curd sushi was delicious with a citrus flavour. Crab surimi sushi was very fresh and delicious, as was surf clam nigiri.
Beef ramen soup was fantastic with authentic spicing of the beef and broth. Chicken fried noodle had a wonderful bready flavour and was delicious. Mishy did not like the beef cube teriyaki at all, calling it a fail, but I didn't mind it. It probably could have been reheated a little. Chicken teriyaki was quite good and I liked the sauce, which also complemented the beef teriyaki.
For dessert, the fried banana, mango ice cream and mango pudding were all indicated as sold out. I don't know why the area would have run out of bananas, but maybe they need a very special variety. vanilla ice cream very good and fresh, red bean a bit freezer burned, green tea good, strawberry excellent. Weekend lunch was $23.99. This is about usual these days and the quality was there to substantiate it (except for the missing desserts.) Service was also very good. We certainly had an enjoyable lunch and would return.
