Yame Sushi (Japanese)

Yame Sushi is located at 339 Kerr St. in Oakville, near enough to the Oakville GO station.  Disposable chopsticks are used unfortunately, but we bought our own as always. Soy at table was low-sodium green-lid, with a strong and good flavor, only slightly salty. Ginger was not dyed pink. Tea is included, pop is canned $1 not AYCD but this is quite a good price. We went for weekend lunch.

Miso soup was spectacularly good, savory and with a very bold rich flavor, not watery at all. Hot and sour soup was not like others (it had bean sprouts, for example,) but it was still very tasty and enjoyable. Mishy said the seaweed salad was very good. Green salad was excellent in a very good orange house dressing. Chicken katsu was very good in a nice sauce and not over-breaded. Mishy loved the dumplings saying they were "amazing"; I agreed they were delicious and the sauce was very complimentary. Chicken skewers we both loved as well, as they had an excellent flavor and were not overcooked to dryness. Chicken teriyaki was also very good with a subtler winy flavor.

Spring rolls were very good, and not too hot or overcooked, with a nice lemon sauce. Vegetable tempura  and shrimp tempura were excellent, not oily, and with an excellent sauce with well-balanced flavor. Beef udon soup was a large bowl, tasty and well-seasoned.

Philadelphia roll was very good, fresh and well balanced. Crab nigiri was also very fresh and flavorful. Surf clam nigiri was also very good and fresh. Red snapper was similarly good, and of course salmon was very fresh. Spicy salmon sushi was excellently spiced, and we both said was among the best of these we have had. Tamago egg sushi was very good with good seasoning. Deep fried tofu was delicious with a flavorful fragrant sauce that Mishy strangely compared... to Band-aids of all things.

For dessert there is only ice cream, but it was all excellent. Chocolate was very rich and dark, strawberry amazingly tasty and rich, and mango, red bean and vanilla very food with no freezer burn. Service was fast and friendly and nice (Mishy said the staff were "cute".) Weekend lunch was $19.99. Yame is not a high-end establishment and serves the basics, but hit the mark on every one of them; all were very good to best-of-breed with no letdowns, and the price including the beverages is very good. I'm happy we discovered this lesser-known gem and hope many others do.
