Yonge Sushi is located at 3421 Yonge Street. The first thing you will probably notice is the comfy atmosphere with the sounds of classical music playing. There are no booths, so if you are used to that you might want to take a seat by the front door.
There is low sodium soy sauce present on all tables so if you are watching your msg count, this is good news.
The wasabi-based salad dressing very good; among the best I've ever had.
The Miso soup had an almost perfect savour but very slightly diluted; a
bit stronger and it would have been perfection, though I am not really a 'soup person' and will usually skip this part all together.
The breaded scallops were excellent (according to my dinner partner as this is something I would skip over as well). He also commented on the shrimp skewers that they had shells on them, but if you don't mind that they were well done.
Salmon anything is tasty. The salmon teriyaki was mild but the sauce was interesting. Chicken teriyaki is my favorite anywhere, and here the sauce is more like gravy, but good nonetheless.
Veggie tempura was perfect with light batter; I tried shrimp, onion, and yam, which were all were equally good. The sushi was fresh; salmon, spicy salmon, red snapper and white tuna all
excellent (go very easy on all tuna these days as it's one of the few fish at risk for excessive mercury!)
California rolls were very good.
Dessert has the rare ginger ice cream in addition to other more common flavours. The service was excellent, fast and attentive. Price is $13.99 for lunch on weekends. This is a higher-end area so it's a good price for this, and though there are slightly cheaper places the food
was excellent enough to deserve a good review! I'd love to return with
Mishy sometime.
Rating 9-9.5/10.
Note: I was so enamored of the food that I forgot to take any photos of it!
