Anjappar Chettinad (Indian)

Anjappar Chettinad is located at 4310 Sherwoodtowne Blvd, Unit 1,  in Mississauga, the municipality on Toronto's west end. It's close to Square One mall so is transit-accessible, but we biked from Port Credit GO which is not for the faint of heart. Anjappar Chettinad serves a weekend breakfast buffet. There are a few locations of this chain (it's actually based in India so there are probably many more there); the Scarborough one used to have a lunch buffet (which was reviewed) but that ended around the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Has a nice interior with plenty of authentic music and incense and is not too brightly lit. Coffee self-serve from a pump urn is included.

Mix veg uttapam is very much like a pancake and was delicious and beautifully seasoned. Sweet pongal was excellent and of course was Missy's favorite being sweet and was also wonderfully seasoned with plenty of cardamom. The proprietor brought us vada which is shaped like donuts... delicious and freshly fried piping hot. There are several other varieties of that with sauces. Samar rava again had fantastic spicing and was delicious. Rasa vada was also delicious. Idly (aka idli) is a lemony doughy bread which was pretty good.

Rava kichhadi resemble mashed potatoes with vegetables, and Mishy loved it as well, and so did I as it was excellently seasoned. We noticed that the spices seem to be somewhat toned down for breakfast brunch. Potato masala was a nice mix of potatoes and chickpeas and well seasoned. I loved the seasoning of the chana masala which had citrus and anise notes. Poori is an airy round naan like bread and was quite good. Dosa was also quite good even by itself.

It’s $19.99 even on a weekend and this is an excellent value. Mishy said it was the best breakfast she’d ever had... I’m usually not a fan of the meal but I was this time! Since we factor value into the rating, with no faults with the food Anjappar comes out on top.
