Mumbay Grill is located at 619 Kingston Road W. in Ajax, the municipality two east of Toronto. It's about a 20 min. walk from the Ajax GO station (and a little longer from Pickering GO) so can be considered transit-accessible. Nice interior with cozy high-back seating. Unlike other places, is properly checking QR code vaccination certs. on entry. Pop is $1.99 canned not AYCD but at least there is Coke Zero. Tea is $2.50 for a small cup with free top-up. We went for weekend lunch.
Butter chicken was excellent and Mishy said she loved it, as did I. Chicken tikka masala was also excellent and enjoyed the sauce immensely. Also very much enjoyed the tandoori chicken, as I missed it very much for well over a year of lockdown. Naan bread was excellent, moist and flavorful and with delicious spicing; Mishy loved it as well. Samosas were delicious, savory and among the better I have ever had. Vegetable pakora were very good and well-seasoned. Rice was basmati nicely accompanied by caraway.
Dal makhani was delicious and well-seasoned. Chana masala was hot, spicy and wonderful, and mattar paneer similarly so but without the heat. Spring rolls were tasty and fresh. Macaroni salad was fresh and had a good sauce. Salad was fresh, and the yogurt dressing completed it well. Mishy said that the aloo gobi was too salty, but I disagree and it turned out that the aftertaste was spicing.
For dessert, pistachio-almond ice cream is among my favorite flavors anywhere. Mango ice cream was also very good and fresh. Gulub Jamin were among the best spiced as well... so this is how good they are supposed to be. Weekend lunch $15.99 and this is an excellent value which will be reflected in the rating. We very much enjoyed our lunch and would happily return.
