Heart Sushi - Mississauga (Japanese)

Heart Sushi is located at 815 Britannia Road W. in Mississauga, close to Mavis which has a Hwy. 401 exit. We've also reviewed Heart's North York location. Heart uses iPad menu, reusable Chopsticks and the setting includes a long-handled fork. AYCD pop is available $2.15. We enjoyed the large bright modern interior. Probably due to the Mississauga bylaws, as I have seen in York Region, sushi/nigiri and other fish items are labeled accurately as "tilapia" and "escolar" rather than "red snapper", "butterfish" or "white tuna". Soy at table was a little salty but very flavorful and fresh.

Miso soup was fantastic (in Mishy's words), very flavourful, fresh and full of savour. Heart Sushi green salad was delicious with a very nice dressing with plenty of orange flavor. General Tao chicken was very good, tasty with an expressive sauce. Wonton soup was very good, with excellent broth and nice wontons. We both loved the chicken teriyaki, the sauce was not overpowering and worked very well with the chicken, which Mishy described as very tender which she usually does not. We also both loved the Thai chicken skewers which were delicious in a very good sauce. I loved the steak teriyaki, mostly for the sauce and the flavor was reminded me of rouladen, but Mishy didn't like it for some reason saying it was a cheaper cut.

Onto the sushi, we both loved Mishy's favorite dish, Salmon Rose, which was very fresh and the sauce was good. Spicy salmon sushi was delicious, also very fresh and very well spiced so was not too hot. Tilapia nigiri was very fresh and very good, as was salmon and escolar nigiri. Tilapia rose was a delicious variation on salmon rose that seems to be catching on elsewhere. California roll was very good and fresh with a good balance of ingredients, but did not have any tobiko.

Yam tempura was good and the sauce was also good, although the tempura was a little bit oily but not enough to worry about. Hot and sour soup was both actually hot and sour, and delicious, although it was just about to start going burnt... it is difficult to keep this fresh. Beef ramen in soya soup was delicious with a very well-seasoned broth, wakame, mushrooms and bok choy. Spring rolls were good, not too oily or overdone, and the sauce was good. Crab stick tempura, which was probably called stick because it is definitely surimi, had a delicious sweetness to it a little reminiscent of candyfloss, but I enjoyed it and the dipping sauce was good. Shrimp tempura was very light and flaky, and not oily at all, and was excellent.

For dessert, shiramizu shot glass pudding was good although Mishy did not like it. Lychee pudding, mango pudding and mango yogurt were both delicious. Green tea ice cream was fresh and good, as was mango and red bean. Coconut ice cream was far and away my favorite. Weekend lunch was $20.99 and with the reasonably priced AYCD pop is a very good value for the offerings. We had a very enjoyable lunch and would happily return.
