(There are at least two other good and large AYCEs near this intersection: Spoon and Fork and a Mandarin.) K&B has a larger nice interior which Mishy described as beautiful.
Reusable chopsticks are provided. Low sodium soy sauce is indicated as already at all tables, though to me it was slightly salty. AYCD pop is available for $2.
Excellent savory miso soup was perfect with the amount of dashi. Garlic and peppercorn beef were both amazing, however they both tasted the same so were both probably the garlic variety... I have no complaints!
Steak teriyaki was even better; Mishy absolutely loved both of them. Cheese wontons were the best both of us had ever had, including the sauce. Chicken teriyaki was amazingly good, definitely barbecued and had excellent sauce with a wonderful smoke flavor. Shrimp tempura was excellent, light and flaky, with an excellent sauce. Sadly the avocado salad dressing had a burnt peanut oil flavor and was the only letdown of the meal, unfortunately this will keep K&B from getting a ten.
Amazingly, K&B has a full sashimi complement on lunch. Salmon sashimi was thick and super-fresh and excellent. Crab and red snapper sashimi were similarly good. Hot and sour soup was fantastic, thick and with just the right heat. Chicken katsu was very good, with a nice sauce. K&B has several dim sum options... Mishy loved the creamy custard buns so much she ordered seconds and then thirds. Pork shiu mai was excellent; the sauce is hot so watch out. Wonton soup was excellent, savory and delicious. Corn soup was also very good.
For dessert, the first bowl of chocolate ice cream was slightly freezer burned, but the next bowl was better, so it was probably just the bottom of the pail for the previous one.
Mango, strawberry and vanilla ice creams were all excellent. Mango yogurt and mango pudding were both excellent. Strawberry jelly is probably just Jello but was still nice. Mishy loved the deep fried milk.
We absolutely loved our lunch there, and wish we lived closer to K&B as it would become our new go-to place for the weekends with the unfortunate (temporary we hope) closure of 8 Sushi. At $21.95 for weekend lunch with sashimi and several varieties of steak-like beef, as well as the excellence of the other offerings, this is now the best value in the GTA. We will definitely return!
