Update: 2021-Aug-20 - This location is not open for dine-in post-lockdown even though it is now permitted, and it is unknown if and when it will ever return. I am therefore removing it from the active list, and will follow up periodically and restore it should it return to AYCE dine-in status.
O.K. Restaurant is located at 23 William St. N. in Lindsay. It is very close to both Friendly Restaurant and QQ Sushi which we have recently reviewed, just north of Kent St. which is Lindsay’s downtown. Reusable chopsticks are used fortunately. Pop is canned, $1.50 not AYCD. Green tea is the same price, and jasmine and other teas are available. Soy at table was salty but flavorful.
Mishy said that the wakame salad was rather boring and not spiced. Green salad with fresh chopped smaller than usual with ranch dressing, which I didn't mind and it was good. Miso soup was not typical in flavor, but was good nonetheless. Wonton soup was quite tasty with a dark savoury rich broth. Hot and sour soup was not the most savoury, but at least it was fresh, which is sometimes not the case at smaller places as it burns easily easily when kept warm.
Chicken fried rice was delicious and we both enjoyed it. Although the shrimp tempura breading was not light and flaky but more solid, it was quite tasty as the breading had partially caramelized and the sauce was quite good. Mishy said the cheese wontons were amazing and I agree they were very good, and the sauce was tasty and not too sweet. We both enjoyed the chicken balls as well in the same sauce as the cheese wontons. Beef teriyaki was quite tasty and we both enjoyed it, although Mishy said that the sauce was a little sweet, but I didn't mind for once. We also both enjoyed the lemon chicken and this is one of Mishy’s signature dishes so she is difficult to impress. Chicken and salmon teriyaki were also quite good and I didn't find the sauce too sweet. Sesame chicken sauce was definitely a bit too sweet, but at least it was flavorful. Mishy liked the egg roll, but unfortunately she ate both of them so I didn’t get a chance to try. Spring rolls were a bit bland, but not bad. Unfortunately the General Tao chicken was terrible, there was nothing in the sauce but sweetness, without any of the characteristic tart and molasses flavors that define this dish.
On the dim sum options, pork shiu mai were tasty, although they did not appear as if they would be. Shrimp dumplings were okay but a little bit bland. Pork with chives dumplings were tasty and I liked them.
On to the sushi offerings, the Philadelphia roll didn't seem to have any cream cheese in it so did not resemble standard Philadelphia roll... it was passable. Spicy salmon roll was standard salmon maki with a dot of spicy sauce on it, however the salmon core was minuscule in relation to the rice. The salmon on salmon nigiri was cut a little thinner than normal which caused it to form to the contours of the rice; this caused Mishy to think that it was off and she didn't like it at all, but I found nothing wrong with the flavor and it was fresh though had a slight aroma of other ingredients indicating that it may have picked it them from the refrigerator. Crab surimi nigiri was similarly alright, as was butterfish (actually escolar,) red snapper (actually tilapia) and surf clam.
For dessert, chocolate, vanilla, mango, and green tea ice creams were all fresh and good. Mishy loved the chocolate ice cream so much she ended up having four scoops of it. Green tea ice cream had this amazing flavor of anise and was delicious. Weekend lunch was $13.99. There were certainly a few shortcomings but this is still a good price these days. So it was reasonably good (aptly named "O.K.") for the price, but I would still suggest going to nearby QQ Sushi instead.
