(UPDATE 2013 Aug. 5) Unfortunately, I went by the Moonlight recently and it has closed. Very sad as this was a family-run place and such a good value; I guess location is everything and they weren't getting the business at this place. There are several other AYCEs in my writeups that are closed now but I won't delete any of their pages... I'll just be updating them all indicating this. If nothing else it will document just how many of them go under, sadly.
The Moonlight Restaurant happened just by chance and I will always remember this place favourably. Mostly because the staff is so sweet. The lady who runs the restaurant was so attentive and allowed me to take pictures without hesitation! They are located at 2198 Dundas street (west of Roncesvalles). What caught my eye was the price. Dinner for $9.99 (lunch is only $7.99)! Unlike other AYCE, this is their everyday price and not just a Tuesday night special.
The food was actually quite good for the price! We showed up on a Wednesday night and we were the only customers in the place. The server quickly uncovered all the dishes so I was expecting everything to be overcooked or dried out from excessive waiting, but this wasn't the case! Soon other customers started coming in, much to my glee!
If you want to come for dinner remember it is a small buffet, so the selection will be accordingly small. They had one variety of soup, and that was wonton, but no complaints here! By the way, I am not a soup person, but it was really good! The chicken wings were excellent, the chicken balls actually had chicken inside! The roast chicken was fresh, and of course steamed vegetables and rice were all good.
The jasmine tea was properly loose (rather than bagged) and the music was nice (Classical 96.3 in Toronto, CFMX). If I had to complain about anything (and I really need to complain about something...) I would say that the lemon chicken didn't taste of anything but sugar...lemony sugar. Otherwise good food, good value.
