Madoi (Japanese)
Madoi is located at 437 George St. N. in Peterborough. Madoi uses iPad menus, as well as reusable chopsticks. Soy at table was flavourful and not too salty. Also tempura sauce is left at at table... it was sweet but delicious. Ginger was not dyed pink. AYCD pop is available for $2.95. We went for weekend lunch.
Avocado salad was very nice according to Mishy. Green salad was excellent with vinaigrette house dressing. Korean pickled radish, although odoriferous, had a nice flavor. Miso soup was fantastic, savory, smoky and not watery at all... among the best. Crab soup was very good and savory. Lemon ball was tasty, desserty and rather sweet, but quite good; Mishy also loved it and the orange ball even more.
BBQ beef and black pepper beef was delicious and we both loved them, as was beef with broccoli. Chicken skewers were tasty in a nice sauce. Chicken satay was delicious but a bit salty. Pan fried mushrooms were good although had slightly burnt flavor. Chicken teriyaki excellent with excellent sauce and unique original. Gyoza soup, with a gyoza in sukiyaki beef broth, was excellent and original. Gyoza themselves were delicious, not browned, required no sauce. Beef short rib was very good, smoky and nice sauce. Beef gyoza was delicious and packed with beef.
Torched salmon nigiri was very good although Mishy, trying to be picky, said that they could have been torched a little more. Salmon nigiri were very good and fresh. Salmon rose, Mishy's favorite, was very good and with an original topping. Crab nigiri were quite good and appears to be real crab. Inari tofu sushi was delicious.
For dessert, there were many unique ice creams. Mint chocolate chip was slightly freezer burned but still quite good. Rainbow sherbet was excellent and delicious. Mango ice cream's flavor was a bit muted but that which was there was gorgeous. Cookies and cream was excellent. Matcha green tea was very good and had a robust flavor. Green apple is unique and among the best ice creams I've ever had... had to order seconds. Lunch was $20.99 and although not perfect and the AYCD pop was a bit pricey, there was enough that was original and new that it was one of the more enjoyable meals we've had in a long time. Service was fast and friendly. We're looking forward to returning!
