Kung Fu Sushi & Kung Fu Tea (Japanese)

Kung Fu Sushi & Kung Fu Tea on Lawrence is located, as may be expected, at 1490 Lawrence Ave. W. near Keele St. in North York, Toronto's north-central borough. iPad menus, modern open interior. The waitress said AYCD canned pop was included, but it's $2.50 per can... no idea if we were understood or not. Free Wifi is available. Kung Fu uses awesome square metal reusable chopsticks which is nice. Soy at table was excellent, not salty, fresh and flavourful.

Mishy said the seaweed salad was beautiful. Beef negimaki wrapped in onion was tasty and we enjoyed it; Mishy said it was "awesome." Beef teriyaki cubes were quite good, and very welcome on lunch menu. Mishy said steak teriyaki was "out of this world" and I agreed and loved it.  Steak yakitori was also awesome and loved it too. Cheese wontons were excellent. which is good as Mishy accidentally ordered too many of them. Chicken skewer Mishy said was rubbery (that adjective again...) but I liked it. Miso soup took almost an hour to arrive(!) but it was worth the wait, very good, savoury, rich and not watery.

Deep fried "scallops" were quite good but I think the sauce was just ketchup. Thai curry chicken was good though not memorable and I struggled to recall it shortly after finishing it. Mishy loved the General Tao chicken and I did as well but the heat was annoyingly persistent.  We both loved the Philly roll as it didn't skimp the cream cheese. Salmon nigiri was slightly off. Chicken teriyaki was good and sauce complimentary, and Mishy didn't have it, so no "rubbery" from her. Gyozo were good, but the sauce was too sweet for my taste. Spring roll was good and sauce, although sweet, was not excessive.

For dessert, several of the items including fried banana were listed as sold out when selected. Mango ice cream was fresh and delicious, mango pudding flavorful and not excessively sweet, chocolate ice cream good and fresh, green tea ice cream good though understated, vanilla ice cream delicious and seemingly French vanilla-style. Weekend lunch was $29. This is pretty much average costing these days; it was a good lunch with some highlights and moreso than the minor shortcomings (and lack of desserts.)
