Wind Japanese and Thai is located at 6485 Mississauga Road, in Mississauga (of course!). We went for weekend lunch. Wind has a very elegant, dark, classic and classy interior, which we both enjoyed very much. Reusable chopsticks are used, thankfully, as well as iPad menus. AYCD pop is available for $2. Soy at table was flavourful but a bit salty. Servers brought around spicy beef, chicken and pineapple from skewers off-menu, much like a rodizio, and they were all delicious.
California salad was very good, with some peanut oil flavor in the dressing, but not excessive. Mishy adored the Thai pumpkin curry soup. I also loved its coconut flavor. Miso soup was good, flavorful and savory, but somewhat diluted. Hot and sour soup was very good, with good flavor balance and heat.
Beef teriyaki was excellent, with large chunks of tender beef, and the sauce was delicious. Chicken teriyaki had plenty of black pepper and it really brought out the flavor. Mishy didn't care for the breading on the General Tso chicken but I didn't mind it, although it had a strange aftertaste. Sweet and sour chicken was also breaded, but without the aftertaste, and was enjoyable. Coconut shrimp was tasty including the sauce. Shrimp tempura was good, light and flaky but the sauce was okay... more like gyoza sauce. Gyoza were indeed in the same sauce and were quite good and also not oily. Mishy didn't like the chicken pad thai, and I noted it had a barbecue flame broiled flavor that didn't belong, but I finished it for her and didn't mind it.
Salmon cheese roll was very good as a knockoff of the Philadelphia roll. Salmon nigiri sushi was very good and very fresh, as was red snapper nigiri. Crab surimi nigiri was also good. Tofu nigiri was tasty with good wrapping. Chipotle salmon sushi is indeed served on a chip (nice wordplay there) and was delicious. Spicy salmon sushi was also good and not too spicy.
For dessert, strawberry mousse was excellent and had strawberry seeds, showing it was made with real strawberries, not just strawberry flavor. Mango mousse likewise had small pieces of mango. Strawberry ice cream was fantastic: creamy, fresh and delicious. Vanilla ice cream was good and fresh. Red bean was also good and had a trace of that special flavor that only the best have. Coconut ice cream was very odd with almost no sweetness and had a strong flavor similar to alcohol, but was enjoyable in an odd way. Service was excellent and very fast. Weekend lunch was $24.99 and this wasn't bad considering how prices have increased recently with the reopening. There were some shortcomings but it was still a very enjoyable lunch, although a couple of dollars pricey.
