CLOSED - New Haandi 2000 (Indian)

Update: 2021-Aug.-24 - New Haandi 2000 appears to have closed; it is no longer on Google Maps, Yelp indicates closed and its phone # is now a medical centre. What with the other Indian restaurants closing their buffet services post-lockdown, there is now not a single Indian buffet left in Gerrard/Coxwell Little India, and only one in Toronto that I know of currently.

New Haandi 2000 is located at 1441 Gerrard Street East, in Toronto's Little India district just west of Coxwell Avenue. We both loved the interior with much hanging cloth on the walls. We went for weekday dinner.

Naan bread was very good and piping hot fresh. Mishy said that the aloo gobi was the spiciest she has ever had, and that this added to the flavour so was not unwelcome. Chicken tandoori was a bit dry but still very tasty. Butter chicken was excellent and the sauce was very tasty. Vegetable pakora was delicious and not dried out. Mishy said that the cucumber tomato salad was amazing. However I thought it was just cut up vegetables (she hadn't added the nearby raita.) They were quite fresh however.

Unfortunately neither of us liked the saag paneer as it was rather bland and I thought it had a leafy taste. Mattar paneer was much better with plenty of cilantro. Chana masala was also very good and again with plenty of cilantro. Mixed vegetables were good with a unique seasoning. Aloo baingan was also quite good... well, at least for eggplant.

For dessert, Mishy loved the chocolate ice cream, as did I... chocolate, mango, strawberry, vanilla ice creams were all better than average. Gulab jamun honey balls were also very good. Price was $13.99 for weekend lunch, $16.99 dinner. Other than the saag paneer, we had quite an enjoyable dinner and I would gladly return. The cost is reasonable given the offerings.

Rating: 7-7.5/10
