Sake
Sushi is located at 5875 Highway 7 in Woodbridge, in a small mall. It
may be in a semi-isolated and semi-industrial area, but it
had plenty of customers, with more arriving after I got there until
it was full, all of them were couples or small groups. There is booth
seating and a small upstairs area. Mini-iPad ordering is used, as
well as reusable chopsticks. Ginger is not dyed pink. Pop is $1.25
per can, not AYCD. Sake Sushi also had very good air conditioning on
a hot day which was most welcome.
Soy sauce was excellent, fresh, high-quality but slightly salty,
however I stuck with it.
Miso
soup was excellent, savory, well-balanced, and fresh, not dilute.
Wonton soup was excellent, tasty broth with both flavor and savour
and excellent filling in the wontons. Green salad was good in light,
savory wasabi house dressing, with a slight orange hint. Cheese
wontons were excellent and had very good sauce, and were lighter and
fluffier than many others. Steak teriyaki was fantastic, thick,
juicy, savory beef in an excellent sauce. Agedashi tofu was
excellent, sauce very good and cooked well. General
Tso Chicken was lighter and spicier and very good. Beware the chicken
dishes teriyaki, Tao/Tso and sweet-and-sour as they are served with
broccoli and onion pieces. Are they considered garnish? I ate them
anyway and they were good.
Chicken teriyaki was excellent, nigh-perfect with sauce
hinting of citrus and cooked succulently. Chicken katsu was very
good, well-cooked and good sauce, although I think it was just
modified ketchup but it worked for me.
Shrimp
tempura was excellent as the tempura dipping sauce was the best I've
ever had, rich like gravy with much flavour; it wasn't included so I
asked for some and it was steaming when brought out. Pan fried gyoza
was also fantastic and much of that was to do with that wonderful
tempura sauce. Scalloped surimi tempura was very good, again
especially with the excellent sauce.
Red
snapper and white tuna sushi nigiri were excellent, super-fresh and
with good rice. Crab surimi nigiri sushi was good. Salmon nigiri was
excellent, fresh, a bit smaller than usual, but that's no problem as
just order more of them. Spicy salmon maki was very good, well-spiced
and tasty. Avocado cucumber roll was very good, with the avocado
perfectly right. Philadelphia roll was very good; unsure of one of
the ingredients but it was good whatever it was.
For
dessert, excellent mango, vanilla, rich and bitter chocolate, red
bean and strong tea flavor green tea ice cream were very fresh and
all very good. Fried banana had chocolate sauce uniformly and thinly
applied in a layer and was excellent like that. Cheesecake was not
even on the menu never mind ordered, but it arrived anyways and was
very good. Mousse cake was the same mocha cake as 8 Sushi and many
other places use. Mango pudding was excellent. Mango tempura ice
cream was also excellent, unfortunately I did not have room or time
to try any more flavors of this excellent variation on plain old ice
cream, as they are all available on a "tempurary" basis.
Service was very fast and friendly. And the best part of the meal:
weekend lunch was only $16.95. (There was even a handwritten note on
the front door apologizing for the increase to this price.) There
wasn't one bad item for this very reasonable price, and plenty of
very good to excellent ones. Mishy insists I return sometime with her
and I would be happy to.
