CLOSED - Mariko (Japanese)

UPDATE: 2015-Feb.-23 All of the Mariko locations in Toronto have closed. They were an excellent value with their low price, but Toronto is gentrifying and quality at a higher price is becoming the new normal.

Prices are extremely reasonable for dinner.

The inside of Mariko and my fried bananas!

The Mariko Japanese Buffet has been around on 353 Danforth Avenue for at least 6 years and at one time they were considered bar none one of the best Japanese buffets around.  As a matter of fact, I found a write up about them on February 2, 2005 where the buffet was $23! Times have changed and now Sushi has become the new 'Pizza' of choice and everyone wants to eat healthier. Not to mention that my friends like the idea of sashimi being low carb for their diets.  But I just like Japanese food because its so good.  Mariko has stood the test of time, and still has the same off yellow/gold painted walls and black painted table tops.  Nothing new there, but because of the competition on Danforth their prices have dropped dramatically.  We enjoyed an all you can for only $ 14.99 for dinner and yes, for those familiar with Japanese food that does include sashimi :") I also love the fried bananas topped with icing sugar!  The staff is down to earth and the atmosphere is very casual.

Their miso soup is perfect. I have to say in all honesty the fish was a little bit off (maybe by 1 day), nothing too worrisome but still very good.  The ice cream is included (but only one scoop).

Overall rating: 9/10
