CLOSED - Indian Spice Kitchen

(UPDATE 2013 Aug. 5) Unfortunately, I went by the Indian Spice Kitchen recently and it has closed. Very sad as this was a family-run place and such a good value; I guess location is everything and they weren't getting the business at this place. There are several other AYCEs in my writeups that are closed now but I won't delete any of their pages... I'll just be updating them all indicating this. If nothing else it will document just how many of them go under, unfortunately.

The Indian Spice Kitchen is located at 748 Markham Road in Scarborough, about midway between Lawrence and Ellesmere Roads, and for those of you who used the TTC, it's conveniently located right by a bus stop.

I'm a recent vegetarian convert, so this is (obviously) going to change my AYCE blogging as there are fewer vegetarian places, but hope I can find enough to keep writing about, or just enough vegetarian dishes at omnivore places. This place was a very good find. Its a small, family-run place. I liked the decor and the ambiance, it was clean and well-kept, and the staff was pleasant and prompt. For example, when they ran out of naan bread at the buffet, they were nice enough to bring some of the next batch to our table.
The food was excellent. Of course, given the name, expect it to be hot and spicy! But I like (some) heat and strong flavours so I really enjoyed it. Especially good is the naan bread, which is the best I've ever had anywhere, and the chana masala (chick peas). But it was all good, and all healthy, and it's wonderful to be able to eat one's fill without any health or ethical worries!

Most of the dishes are vegan (no animal products at all) but some may have a little dairy in sauce, and there is ice cream available, as well as soft drinks for a very reasonable $0.99.
And, yes, financial worries also won't interfere with your enjoyment. The price for dinner is $8.99! No, that isn't a typo! This is less than a lunch entree costs at some places. Since I always factor pricing and value into my rating, it's a solid 10/10 for Indian Spice Kitchen! I will be returning there often.

P.S. Pics were taken by my hub's IPhone (forgot my camera) :)
