Bollywood Restaurant & Sweets (Indian)

Bollywood Restaurant and Sweets is located at 4000 Steeles Ave. W., west of Weston Road. It has a nice modern interior, and there were about ten other customers on weekday lunch.

For starters, french fries are just the right crispness and good, even with nothing on them. Onion rings were very good and slightly crispy, but I like them that way. Spring rolls were alright, though a bit dry. Naan bread was fresh and flavorful. Chicken tikka masala was excellent with large tender chunks of moist chicken, and excellent seasoning, featuring coriander. Butter chicken had equivalently large and moist chunks of chicken and was deliciously spiced, and not too sweet which I appreciate. Chicken curry was excellent with a rich, delicious sauce that was very well spiced and with just the right amount of heat.

Chicken vindaloo was also very good, with plenty of flavor, but watch out as there was plenty of heat as well. Green beans and potatoes were quite good, like aloo gobi without cauliflower, as was shahi paneer, with paneer replacing the chicken in butter chicken. There is also a chicken tikka masala with paneer replacing the chicken; there are many vegetarian options at Bollywood. Chana masala was alright, but the flavors didn't really jump out, and I think it was a bit stale. Noodles were good, well spiced but starting to dry out. Dal makhani was delicious, very well spiced.

For dessert, several of the flavors of ice cream here where the most freezer burned ice cream I have ever seen. I could not even break the surface of the pistachio almond no matter how hard I attacked it with the scoop, and it was covered, as was orange pineapple, with a thick layer of condensed ice crystals. One delicious and unique flavor sadly ruined by freezer burn was rose faluda, which was wonderful, or would have been, were it a little fresher. Mango, strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla are also available. Rice pudding was quite good and fresh, although I would have added a little more cinnamon. Rasmalai was delicious and I had seconds, another hard-to-find dish that Bollywood had. Weekday lunch was $13.99 and it was quite a good lunch excepting the terrible ice cream. This would be a recommended place for vegetarians and those not really into dessert (ironic, what with the name of the establishment.)
