Kanda Sushi (Japanese)

Kanda Sushi is located at 2325 Hurontario at The Queensway in Mississauga, the municipality just west of Toronto, in a small plaza. It has a bright modern interior with two-person mini-booths, iPad ordering and reusable chopsticks. The interior is interestingly different with a sunken centre area that looks like it used to be the dance floor of a small nightclub before it was Kanda Sushi.  AYCD pop is available for $1.50, as well as free WiFi. Soy was flavorful but salty; low-sodium is available on request and was an improvement. Interestingly tempura dipping sauce is also provided at the beginning before any ordering (and it was quite good as well.) Note that the Google Maps entry for Kanda indicates that reservations are required; this is completely incorrect and it is a casual place.

Kanda had quite a large and complete menu for a small and "chill" establishment. Green salad was very good even though there didn't seem to be anything but lettuce in it, due to the excellent dressing. Miso soup was excellent and savoury. Shrimp tempura was light, flaky and excellent. Cheese wontons were also very good; not too hot and nice sauce. Chicken teriyaki also was very good and had great sauce. Kanda's "beef soup" is a more reasonably-sized beef udon without the udon, but with beef broth, green onions and wakame, and was quite good. Beef teriyaki was delicious; the sauce was the same as the chicken's but it worked for both. Spring rolls were good with nice plum dipping sauce. Gyoza were very good. Yam tempura were good and not too oily.

"Spicy sour soup" (aka hot and sour) was probably name-changed as it had seafood and other odd flavours in it, but wasn't bad. Chicken skewers were excellent and I loved the sauce with plenty of curry hints. Chicken cutlet/katsu was delicious and also had a nice sauce. General Tao/Tso chicken was not bad but the sauce could have used less sweet and more tang. Sweet and sour chicken was very good. BBQ beef ribs had some fat on them so removed it; they were quite tasty. Bulgogi Korean pan-fried beef was good but needed a little more flavour. Spicy chicken was otherwise good but had a strange unidentifiable flavour at times. Avocado/cucumber roll was very good, with the avocado at the perfect ripeness. Crab, salmon and white tuna nigiri were all very fresh and very good. Teppanyaki sirloin beef with garlic was delicious and wonderful and it was nice to see this on the lunch menu.


For dessert, mango pudding was so deliciously rich and delicious. Berrycino, another shot glass dessert, was just awesome. Mango, raspberry and mocha mousse cakes were the same brand that 8 Sushi and other establishments use (and I do enjoy.) "Chocolate pancake" is a crepe and was quite good. Green tea (which I didn't order but was brought anyway), mango, vanilla and red bean ice creams were all fresh and very good. The service was very fast and friendly. Lunch was very good to excellent for a quite reasonable $16.99. With only a couple of minor issues, the remainder was impressive.
